It can be vert translucent, or appear nearly opaque, but light will shine through most true carnelian stones. Carnelian that has banded patterns would also be considered an agate (commonly know as Sardonyx). Most often associated to the lower chakras, particularly the sacral chakra, Carnelian is a stone that offers grounding and stability, and can enhance sexual energy.
